ODES Pro 800 UTV review
ODES came to that conclusion as well, and since then if it rolls on wheels, it will be run by good old American Industry guys. Considering this predates any practical internal combustion engine by about a century, we wondered what it meant. ODES feels it is their responsibility to offer the best quality product for the money. That means lots of testing of every component.
Their parts and UTVs go through extensive testing during 3, mile durability tests. We were told there is an abundance of wildlife and it is possible to come across bobcat, coyote and an occasional bear, but we were there to experience the wildlife of the ODES lineup! Both offer a two year warranty. The ODES Raider is their sporty model and is similarly equipped to the Dominator models, with similar warranty and accessories. We spent an afternoon prowling around the Cleghorn ride area on the Dominator and generally had a great time. A full ride review will be coming soon, but during our too-short ride, we found that we really appreciated the power and maneuverability of the Dominator, which we tested in both the two and four passenger configuration.
Both machines were capable at climbing hills and taking sharp turns with ease. Both models also had nice bucket seats, consoles were easily readable, and they never lacked for power. We did feel the bucket seats were a little firm, but these models being brand new probably just needed to be broken in a bit. We also missed the grab bar on the passenger side dash, but a grab bar on the roll cage works very well and it aids in getting in and out of the vehicle.
To make it easier, you can set up a test drive via the ODES website, get a quote on a customized machine and also apply for financing right online through ODES. Replacement parts can be ordered on the website to US, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Mexico, or ordered through your local dealer. Personally, I would avoid them. Here are the issues: Borderline adequate cooling. I consider anything over as overheating. Odes used a single fan on the radiator and a single fan on the engine compartment on early models.
RPM makes one for a Rotax that fits. High quality bearings are available at most bearing supply houses or auto supplies. Replacement seals are available from Odes parts. If you are considering buying a used machine. Jack each wheel up and check them. Interior Heat in Summer.ODES UTV RAIDER 800
Since Odes come standard Dominator with a full windshield, there is not enough air flow in the Summer in the cab. You can simply insulate the inside of the engine cover. I also removed my cat. That was the biggest source of interior heat. I and several others experienced this with my Early models used a 8mm retaining bolt on the front trans. If you are buying a used machine, it is worth the effort to check it. It can be accessed from under the engine cover or by removing the center belly pan from underneath.
Personally, I would not consider buying a used Odes regardless of the year model without checking the bolt. Wheel Lugs. Again, I have not experienced this problem, but, I don't jump my machine. The OE wheel lugs on Odes machine is m10x1.
The wheels are lug centric not hub centric so all the stress is on the lugs when landing from a high jump. The simple fix is to replace the 10mm lugs and nuts with 12mm. Problem solved.

The Odes Dominator X4 excels as a people mover. It is far happier exploring, hunting, camping and sightseeing than it is hammering through terrain aggressively.
The Dominator X4 has an cc, fuel-injected, V-twin, four-stroke engine that claims 60 horsepower and 73 foot-pounds of torque. If you are at high altitude, drive mountainous terrain or plan on hauling, go for the For work that is not radically steep with mostly firm terrain, the is fine. Like many CVT-equipped machines, the shifting is crunchy rather than smooth, but it works fine. High range is fine for mild terrain, but we used low range more on the X4 than we normally do.
The engine starts readily and runs clean with good response to throttle inputs. In almost all cases the CVT feeds the power in smoothly with no hitches at all. One of our regular trails has some offset rock steps that will really see-saw a short-wheelbase machine, but the X4 handled it smoothly.
When you are pushing the X4 through steep, high-load obstacles like that, you do smell rubber when the belt gets hot. With the engine intake right between the front seats, we would expect that, and we used the rubber smell to know when to ease off on the belt.
As we mentioned, there is a lot to get excited about with the X4. With the seat all the way back, the steering wheel and the pedals are a stretch for a 6-foot-2 driver! The machine has selectable four-wheel drive and differential lock. There is a front winch with a wireless remote that works very well. At night you will find that the headlights are fine, but engage the two LED light bars and you will have candlepower like you have never seen on a production machine!
A full roof is standard. Look carefully under the roof and you will see that there is a full windshield hidden in the roof. The windshield stays in the roof as long as the weather is warm, but loosen a couple of knobs and the windshield slides into place and is secured to the cage with rubber straps.
That is very slick. Check out the bed and you will find an electric dump control inside the cab, a rubber bed mat covering the bed floor and a locking toolbox on each side of the bed. Odes also claims 14 inches of wheel travel—the most in this class. When we pushed the Dominator hard on even moderately rough terrain and through G-outs, we bottomed the rear suspension hard.
The preload-adjustable shocks are soft with smooth action. As a result, there is a fair amount of body roll.
The plus side of the soft suspension and ample travel is the smoothest ride we have ever experienced across small chop or sharp-edged ruts. It has 16 inches of ground clearance, which is enough to clear most obstacles. The car feels heavy, and the active suspension and high clearance make it feel more like a rock-crawler Jeep with a lot of articulation rather than a dune buggy.Extra seating is only one area where the X4 delivers more than most expect.
Other features include seating for five, a power dump bed, mirrors, adjustable seats, a winch, power steering, doors, front and rear bumpers, turn signals, and an LED light bar. An cc, single-overheadcam, eight-valve V-twin with 60 horsepower. There are two fans on the radiator to assure adequate cooling in severe conditions. The CVTech clutch uses a small oneway bearing on the primary clutch to achieve low gearing for quick starts while allowing high top speed. Top speed is 50 mph, which is impressive.
Smooth and strong. Square-section dual A-arms front and rear with spring preload- and air-pressure-adjustable shocks. Travel is 14 inches front and rear. We started out with zero pressure in the air-adjustable shocks, and the rear end bottomed frequently on rough trails with four people in the X4. We set the shocks to their psi maximum, which ended the bottoming, and the ride quality was excellent. The suspension was compliant even at low speeds on technical trails with good control for higher speeds.
Power steering gives the Dominator easy handling without taking away useful steering feel. Very capable. When trails offer difficult climbs on the route, the Dominator is ready.
The feeds its power to the ground predictably, and the 4WD system finds plenty of grip. Odes has included many of the features UTVers add as standard equipment, and the seating for five means more riders can join the fun. There are some rough edges, like the intake noise in the cabin at full throttle and front tires contacting the front bumper trim during hard cornering in bumpy terrain.
